Yaiza to el cotillo ( Fuerteventura) via playa blanca
Stayed at hotel La Casona de Yaiza. Excellent and reasonably priced but not a Bentley in sight. Brilliant restaurant.
Had planned a loop west today but komoot reports road closed due to subsidence.
Forecast is dry but VERY windy so we are not booking tonight’s accommodation till we see if ferry operational.
The run out of Yaiza was on a beautiful smooth road. The LZ 704 I think. The parallel LZ02 is strictly no bikes. Last time I was here I managed somehow to end up on it and was def not flavour of the month with drivers. today we got it right but the block headwind was a trial .
Onto ferry at Playa Blanca. It looks wild rough ..and I forgot my sea legs. 🦵
Rough crossing but was over before I revisited my break fast.
Landed at Corralejo and headed west into the wind , back on gravel within a km which lasted all day
After about an hour it got so windy we had to stop for a bit , wrestling with my bike under full sail was no joke. I would have needed a few reefs in.
We struggled on , beauty all around but the wind kept our heads down. We were shot blasted with sand all day picking sand out of all the crevasses now 🤪.
Was never so glad to see destination ,El cotillo. Inhaled a pizza and coke in 2 minutes. Hopefully that will be the end of storm therese
Hope the gravel grinder went well for everyone. Congrats to TP and DAR on finishing their race in Africa. Top class.
