Great meal last night in Kilcrohane , a bit “school dinner” but hit the spot. Breakfast proceeded much like yesterday with our host Jennie most put out at our refusal of a fry. We averted a cross border incident by accepting scrambled eggs , which were delicious.
The sun was shining early , and it was no coincidence as we were under divine protection with John Harty having invoked both the child of Prague and the sleeping Joseph . If anyone wakes him they will have me to answer to
Headed for sheep’s head which was quiet and beautiful. Back to Kilrohane to look for a coffee fix. First two cafes were closed, so had a look in the post office/ shop and noticed a fine coffee machine. Picking up a can of coke and a mars bar I asked the owner if his coffee machine was on. With a sigh he replied “ it is and it isn’t” I took this as a No and paid for my goods . As I turned to go he asked “ do you want the coffee or not ? “. “ but don’t be asking for any fancy coffee , we are hardly up from the Nescafé table and now we are all coffee snobs “. I took this as a hint that I was not to order a vanilla oat Frappuccino and meekly requested 2 americanos. Same were delivered with complimentary jam tarts. As he seemed to be warming up a bit I commented on the weather which is rather fine. “No it’s not he said” I asked why … his reply “ tooorists that’s why , far too many of them”. It could have been a conversation stopper ,but we persisted and he cracked eventually.
We then got regaled with a full run down on his latest trip to lahinch ( where presumably he was a tourist) and the cost of a hotel. Frank a legend , call in and order a cappuccino for the laugh .
Over the goats pass for a swim at gortnakilla , sublime. Into Bantry and then a not so pleasant road to adrigole. No shop open and we were parched. Padraig to the rescue at the national school , not only water but raided the staff room biscuit tin also.
Hefty climb over the Healy pass and a long run into kinsale where Oksama has already exceeded expectations by doing our laundry
