Day 0 . This trip has been in the offing for some years , having been scuppered by covid . Finally got around to it , now i’m not so sure as it is no longer looming but a reality . I’ve spent the last 2 weeks agitating about packing , spares to carry and those bloody tyres! ( more later)
Tomorrow we transfer by car to Kinsale to start with a short spin to Clonakilty to B+B. Serendipitously Doc Lewis is doing the TAW north to south so he is taking our car north and we are taking his south , the drawback to this arrangement means we HAVE to finish !
The route is an edited version of the TAW in reverse with some subtractions of bits we have done already and additions of bits Doc Lewis suggested using his prior knowledge of two previous TAW’s. The first few days could tell a tale as day 2 is 134KM ,fully loaded that could be interesting 🙂 . 1655Km with 14560m in total ……
For the equipment geeks we are riding Enigma Escapes , mine has SRAM xplor 1×11 , herself has SHIMANO 1 x 12 GRX, wheels ( this will. engender some opinions I would say) are Roval terra CLX 650B with (eventually) tubeless Rene Herse Babyshoe pass extralight 42mm . Tailfin Aerodecks and various bits. Mudguards …….. we debated long about having these or not …but let’s face it three weeks in Ireland we can expect rain ?
I will try and post a daily report here more for my own record than anything else . Hoping someone might join us along the way for a few miles to prevent divorce .
