Headwind wins … going north.

8am Port del Rosario , had planned early departure but its LASHING RAIN ☔️! 70 km planned to take us to the west coast, along the famous cliffs and back up to Corralejo hopefully with a tailwind. A lot of the surfaces will not be pleasant in the wet as turns to porridge quickly.

Rain radar forecast is hopeful that it will clear so sitting tight for a bit.

Left before nine. Rain had eased. Komoot had us off road almost immediately through what seemed to be the municipal dump and a no entry sign. But my inner Hugh S was strong and we carried on.

One issue I have with Komoot is that when you ask for gravel it gives you gravel even when it makes no sense. It had us over and back a road half a dozen times to ride on roadside tracks , it would have made much more sense to stay on the road. It seems incapable of offering an option to avoid silly diversions for very small gravel gain.

Before long the rain started. Goretex was recruited for a while and the road was very mucky, which was the way we remained for the day.

Soon brightened up and we hit the mountain. Met quite a few bike packers as we headed to the west coast and the famous cliffs which I had been keen not to miss. The didn’t disappoint and I even got a dip

Onwards to complete a loop back to El Cotillo where we had lunch and avoided another massive downpour. Then east across the sand dunes to corralejo hopefully, this time we were meant to have a tailwind wind but somehow the wind had swung to the east although not too strong. Loads of surfers out which got me thinking what the collective noun for surfers is ,a break? a barrel ?

Very very muddy and we were very glad to get the use of a hose in Corralejo YC. Booked into a pretty dubious hotel but will suffice for one night.

Bigish day with 90% off road and gnarly in places especially along the cliffs . Maybe another day here before we head back to Lanza ……although would need a new hotel🤪

ASS holding up well

As is 🚦on Green.
