Sunrise 2016 , scheduled for 8.44am .In a change of plan and to aid Cairnuary Fans ,We will leave Glen Later than usual at 8am . Route: Second right, switchbacks (start the year as you mean to go on ), Cairn for sunrise weather permitting . Then depending on weather Knockshee or home.
Martin From the Rossi suggested a joint venture today and we got a nice window in the weather . A medley of decrepid looking Santas and varicose Hat decorations lightened the day ( slightly) . Prize for best bike decoration Mr Doyle and Best hat by a country mile Mr Power . Mr Stewart returned from a dalliance on the dark side , however I fear that he may never return . Mr kinbote flew in specially to make a star appearance . John and Kevin represented The Rossi.
The route was specifically chosen to be non challenging given the day that was in it . Dart(ish)up the switchbacks to the cairn , take a selfie to prove attendance , Run (ish) down the glen back to car park. On bikes , back to trails , Fallow , Northshore , another selfie to prove compliance . Straight down to second right and trails back to car park , mulled wine , mince pies , easy .
there was a short interlude (during which I contemplated early reunion with my maker) while Paul and Rusty arrived . apparently Paul had made a wrong turn and gone via Knockshee ;-).
A nice day out and has the makings of a good race route . with possibility of lenghthening run and or cycle easily. ? Kilbroney Challenge 2016?
We also raised £110 for the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust , so WELL DONE ALL.
Many thanks to Martin for babysitting bikes and John and Stella for catering . Thanks to Rowan for the prizes . Anyone who didnt get a calendar who wants one let me know.
Merry Christmas all
There is talk of a spin on Sat 26th maybe starting 9.30 …keep an eye on facebook

In which the brother returns from his antipodean antics and wished he hadn’t bothered. Dan Duffy teaches us to always turn at the snow line , Mr Power gets frostbite and I develop COCbite .Herself got the usual hypothermia , shes moving to austrailia too.
It was lashing at the glen and all of us had harboured a secret hope taht no one else would turn up so we could go home . But damnation there were 5 of us . Mr PS was recovering from his treacherous attendance at the 6.1ers xmas do , his back obviously not bad enough to affect his appetite for glasses of cold milk.
Obviously the open mountain held no attraction so the initial plan was to do the 5 hills of the Ulster way . Batts , High Batts , Sheep pen etc . But after the high Batts we couldnt face the cold descent so darted in to reverse trails , across a surprisingly low ford and reverse to Slieve meel exit , black down to Ulster way and home by trails..absolutely frozen and soaked .
